— My fourth quote of 2017 is “When you are young, your grandparents try to tell you their history and you don’t care because it does not interest you at the time. Later on, you wish you had written down what they said.” *This might be the year to ask your grandparents’ to tell their stories while you write down or record and have for later. Their stories really are a treasure to behold.

Our Salmon River canyon lost another dear friend, Bob Spanton, Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017, with his sweet wife Mary, his sister, Dolly, and her husband, and Father Dick by his side. Bob will be remembered for his great smile, personable way, and wonderful stories…true or otherwise. Bob’s memorial service was held Tuesday, Jan. 24, at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in Riggins at 11 a.m., followed by a potluck dinner at the Salmon River Community Church Fellowship Room.

Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 5, football game and activities at Summervilles will be supporting the Salmon River Booster Club. There will be a drawing for prizes including lots of shirts, Legacy backpack, Firefly golf bag, Keystone tent, Rockstar snow board, Rockstar suitcase and five bottles of wine…one bottle will have a $100 bill attached to it. You must have tickets to win; tickets may be purchased for $1 each…every drink purchase during the game earns a ticket as well. Absolutely 100 percent of the drawing proceeds will be donated to the Salmon River Booster Club for our Salmon River kids.
