GRANGEVILLE The GHS girls celebrated their seniors last Saturday, Jan. 21, and through two-and-a-half quarters, they kept visiting St. Maries off-balance.
GHS took a 23-22 lead to halftime with a couple of free throws from freshman JaKaili Norman, and lingered within a point of the lead midway through the third.
Sophomore guard Chloe Dame sank a three-pointer and senior post Rachel Kelley followed up with a hoop set up by sophomore Paige Lindsley’s entry pass. Kelley’s basket cut a Lumberjacks lead down to 31-30, but St. Maries scored the next 12 points in a row.
GHS trailed by 16 starting the fourth and St. Maries matched the Bulldogs shot-for-shot to the end.
Foul trouble caught up with the GHS girls, with officials sending four Bulldogs to the bench before it was over. McKenzie Kennedy finished with 19 points and Lindsley (16) also scored a team-high.
Next, Grangeville (5-8, 1-2 Central Idaho League) is set to host Nezperce Friday, Jan. 27 and visit CIL foe Orofino next Tuesday, Jan. 31. GHS is set to visit Moscow Feb. 2 and the district tournament begins Feb. 4.
