GRANGEVILLE Mountain View School District 244 is on the search for a new superintendent.
“I’ve been having some serious health issues,” said Kent Stokes, who has served as the school district’s superintendent since 2013.
“We are hoping medically Kent can still be in the position, but in the meantime, we need to look at what’s available out there,” said Mike Dominguez of Kooskia, MVSD board chair.
Dominguez said he and the remainder of the board are confident in their district office administration to be able to fill the gaps in the meantime.
“We have a great staff who are all willing to pick up the pieces,” he said.
Cody Weddle, director of curriculum and development for the district, will be filling in and Dominguez said he and board vice-chair Lot Smith will also fill in and take care of what they are able to take care of.
“We do hope to have something nailed down by the start of the school year,” he said, whether that be an interim or Stokes back in the position if he is medically able to do so.
Dominguez said they have “put the notice out there,” and have had several responses and interest.
“Whatever we do, we want to take our time and do what is best for the district,” he said. He and board members have consulted former Grangeville High School principal Steve Higgins and former superintendent Greg Bailey.
“We just want to do the whole process correctly and make sure we aren’t missing anything,” he said. “We are not in a rush.”
Dominguez added that a new board member is sought for Zone 5, formerly a position held by Jeremy Harris of Grangeville. Anyone within that zone who has interest in the trustee position can call the district office at 983-0990.
The next board meeting is set for July 17 at Grangeville.
