Grazing lease rate formula up to be reviewed at upcoming public meetings

The Idaho Department of Lands (IDL) will hold three open house public meetings to share information and accept comments on changes to the formula used to determine the grazing lease rate on Idaho endowment lands. Regional meetings will be held in Idaho Falls, Nampa and Lewiston, with the Lewiston meeting set to go first. The Lewiston meeting will be 6-8 p.m. July 25 at the Idaho Department of Fish and Game Office, 3316 16th St.

IDL manages more than 1,100 grazing leases that cover more than 1.7 million acres of endowment lands. Revenue from the leases helps to fund Idaho’s public school system and other State of Idaho institutions. The current grazing lease rate methodology has not been updated since 1993.

Under the direction of the State Board of Land Commissioners (Land Board), IDL manages more than 2.4 million acres of endowment trust land under constitutional mandate to maximize long-term financial returns to public schools and other State institutions from uses on the lands.

Comments on the grazing lease rate formula alternatives will be accepted through Sept. 1.

Information about the IDL grazing lease rate formula alternatives, the review process and how to comment can be found on the IDL web site at
