Drug use investigation at hot springs nets arrests

POWELL – Five individuals were recently cited at two U.S. Highway 12 hot springs following investigation emphasis by the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office (ICSO) on suspected drug use.

According to a release, ICSO has been taking measures to reduce drug usage at these recreational areas. Deputies have been patrolling Weir Hot Springs, milepost 142.2, and Jerry Johnson Hot Springs, milepost 151.5, both in uniform and undercover.

On June 30, one of these patrols resulted in multiple contacts and the following citations at Weir Hot Springs: Lydia B. Goetz, 22, of Moreno Valley, Calif., possession of controlled substance; Miranda C. Goetz, 22, of Missoula, Mont., possession of controlled substance; Cory M. R. Olsen, 28, of Missoula, possession of controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia; Roger N. Maney, Jr., 42, of Burien Wash., possession of controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia; and Robert J. Murphy, 61, Helena, Mont., invalid driver’s license.

“People go to the hot springs to enjoy themselves, and they are unable to do so when others are there using drugs,” ICSO Lieutenant Doug Ulmer said.
