Funderburg civil case averts a jury trial; Stems from 2013 sexual battery

— A court case filed against the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office by the victim of a former deputy’s 2012 sex crime had been scheduled for jury trial last month, but was resolved beforehand, documents held at the Lewis County Courthouse show.

The civil case, stemming from Daniel Funderburg’s illegal sexual relationship with an underage teenager, had been scheduled for jury trial on June 5, which was averted by an agreement between the parties. The matter was formally closed June 19.

The Free Press requested comment from both sides; the victim’s attorney did not respond and Idaho County Sheriff Doug Giddings told the Free Press he could not discuss the outcome of the civil case.

The criminal case against Funderburg resulted in his conviction for sexual battery of a minor in 2013; he was jailed and fired, and is registered in the Idaho State Police Sex Offender Registry.
