Woodruff wins 2017 Border Days Rodeo top prize

— Breakaway roper Amy Woodruff won more than $1,300 for her top finish (2.0 seconds) in that event during the Border Days Rodeo held here July 1-3. The runner-up breakaway roper, Katie Rice, won more than $1,100 — which was also a prize on par with the prime purses in the other main events. In the women's main event, Jade Crossley won the barrel racing, completing the cloverleaf in 18.186 seconds.

Shane Morin won the bareback riding with a score of 77, and Johnny Espeland won the saddle bronc buckle with an 81. But of the bucking horse events, only the ranch broncs' top payoff topped $1,100 — and that payout went to Konnyr Marek who scored 75.

Bull rider Cody Ford also topped $1,100, having notched a 79 during the July 2 rodeo. The only other bull rider who scored, Colt Yeager, won nearly $1,000.

Augie Robinson placed first in tiedown roping with a time of 9.0 seconds, and Hayden Fullerton won with a 4.5 in steer wrestling. In professional team roping, header Terry Logan and heeler Brandon Bates each won more than $1,100 on a 5.1-second catch.

In the local events, Brett Edwards and Gabe Richardson won the Lee Woods Memorial Team Roping buckle with catches all three nights in a time of 47.2 seconds, with Cassie Woods and Clay Graham second with two catches in 25.0 seconds and Katie Marek and Bill Marek third with two in 32.3.
