Sponsored content: You have our permission to enjoy your yard this week

Work, work, work. Dig this and weed that. Haul out the clippings, haul in the fertilizer.

Enough of that. What good is having a nice yard if you’re too busy, or tired, to enjoy it? So, we here at Green Acres Nursery give you permission this week to take a break; stop and just enjoy your green space.

You’re not alone, as 86 percent of Americans (according to a survey by TruGreen) who are lucky enough to have a yard consider it to be an important part of their life. In fact, yard owners spend an estimated 50 hours more per year outside than those without. More than half of Americans say they want to spend more time outside, and 68 percent said they aren’t spending more time outside compared to five years ago. And, three out of five Americans agree their yard is their favorite place at home to spend quality time with their family.

What to do? Here’s a couple of options.

Make this a movie night: Set up an outdoor screen with projector, and set up a space with pillows, blankets, snacks and drinks. For extra ambiance, place candles around the area; remember to make those citronella to keep pesky mosquitos away.

Get the grill going: Try some new grill recipes this week, something more than traditional hamburgers or hot dogs. Experiment with shish kebob, or better yet try Robatayaki (Japanese barbecue) menu items to share with friends. Make sure to have an old washtub full of ice at hand to keep your beverages cool.
