Two-day Clearwater Region hunting, fishing expo scheduled this August

— Idaho Fish and Game is hosting the third annual two-day “Fish & Hunt Idaho Expo.” This event will be held Aug. 25, 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Lewis-Clark Wildlife Club Shooting Range at 27007 Tom Beale Road near Lapwai, and Aug. 26, 8-4 p.m. at the Idaho Fish and Game regional office at 3316 16th Street in Lewiston.

Anyone interested in hunting and fishing is invited to attend, including those who have never picked up a gun or rod before, those who have hunted and fished for many years but would like to try a different aspect of the sport, and those who have been away from hunting or angling for years.

Idaho Fish and Game and Lewis-Clark range staff will be available on Friday starting at 2 p.m. to mentor participants as they shoot shotgun or try various rifle calibers. A barbeque dinner will be served starting at 4 p.m.

The Aug. 26 session will include outdoor events at the regional IDFG office.

“Participants of the event will become connected to the traditions of hunting and fishing through a series of educational, hands-on workshops,” said Clearwater Region supervisor Jerome Hansen. “It can be a lot to take in for a first-time sportsman as they learn where to hunt, what to pack, choose the right weapon, and techniques and regulations for the fish and wildlife they wish to pursue.”

“Our goal is to help make the learning process easier by providing information within a series of workshops offered throughout the day,” he added. “Come for part or all of the day to learn more.”

Emphasis will be given to hunting/fishing techniques and equipment, how to safely use, care for and select a firearm or rod and reel for purchase, as well as how to properly clean, fillet, field dress, process and cook your meat.

Workshop participants will have the opportunity to taste wild fish and game meat cooked in a variety of ways. Lunch will be served by the Boy Scouts and 4-H shooting sports from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Specialized workshops will also be offered. These include fish cleaning/cooking, elk calling, traditional vs. modern archery, fly rod casting, upland game bird hunting, duck hunting and women in hunting.

Families are encouraged to attend. Activities will be offered for kids such as BB gun shooting range, bow building and laser shooting.

Participants do not need to preregister. Stop by the Clearwater Region office or call (208) 799-5010 for an additional chance to win a rifle donated by Sportsman’s Warehouse, or connect on Facebook by searching for the Idaho Fish and Game Clearwater Region:
