The Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests and several partner groups will be hosting the annual Kids’ Free Fishing Day events on Saturday, June 10 near Grangeville, Elk City, and Lowell. The events will take place from 8 a.m. to noon and are for children up to 12 years of age. An adult must accompany each participant. Bring a fishing pole and your own tackle and prepare for a fun-filled day of fishing.
Near Grangeville, the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests and the Grangeville Lions Club, along with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game and the Bureau of Land Management’s Cottonwood office, will be presenting the 29th annual Kids’ Free Fishing Day Event at Wilkins’ Pond. The Lions Club will be cooking hot dogs and providing drinks free for all. The pond is located off of Highway 95 approximately 5.5 miles south of Grangeville on Lake Road. Near Elk City, Free Fishing Day will be held at Karolyn’s Pond. To get to Karolyn’s Pond, turn off of Highway 14 onto county road 222 towards Red River. Look for the pond near the old Red River Ranger Station. For more information about the event at Karolyn’s Pond, contact the Red River Ranger District at (208) 842-2245.
Near Lowell, Free Fishing Day will be held at Fenn Pond, located across from Fenn Ranger Station on Selway Road #223. This pond boasts smooth trails, fishing piers, and a boardwalk, making it an ideal spot for children and those needing less rugged fishing access. For more information about the event at Fenn Pond, contact the Moose Creek Ranger District at (208) 926-4258.
All other regular fishing rules and regulations, including creel limits, opening dates, and tackle restrictions remain in effect on Free Fishing Day. Always check fishing seasons and rules for the water where you plan to go fishing.
