— The Idaho High School Activities Association has named Prairie High School “Schools of Excellence” winner for the 2016-2017 school year. This is a voluntary program in which schools earn points based on their student athletes’ performance in athletics, academics and sportsmanship. The school will be recognized at the IHSAA annual meeting Aug. 2.

Prairie High School has been named as the 1A Division I School of Excellence. Carrie Nygard is the principal and athletic director. Congratulations to the students, teachers and families involved in this honor.

The summer reading program will start June 14 at the Prairie Community Library. It is a sporty theme this year. Don’t forget to read to your kids this summer.

Vacation Bible school will be held at the Tri-Parishes’ Catholic Education Center (CEC) June 19-22 for children in kindergarten through fourth grade in the 2017-2018 school year. The CEC Building is located behind Prairie Elementary School. Each day it will run from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Preregistration is preferred. Cost is $7 per child or $21 per family if preregistered; $10 per child or $30 per family on the first day of VBS. Forms to register can be found in church entrances; contact Lisa at 791-5318 or slriener@msn.com.

Sunday evening Mass at Holy Cross in Keuterville will begin on June 4 and will continue through the summer with the final Mass and dessert function on Sept. 10. Mass time is 7 p.m.

Happy Birthday to our Catholic Church! On Pentecost Sunday our church was 1,984 years old.

We were saddened by the loss of our son, Keith Wassmuth, last week due to an auto accident. The outpouring of love and support since then has helped us get through a difficult time. Keith had this taped to his lamp by his bed: “The definition of Integrity: Don’t assume, Don’t take things personal, Do your best.”
