CLEARWATER VALLEY Ever heard the term “ham” radio and wondered what the heck it is? The Three Rivers Amateur Radio club wants to show you at their field day on Saturday and Sunday, June 24-25. They will have three radio transmitters and temporary antennas at Kamiah’s Riverfront Park and encourage the people to stop by and check it out beginning at 11 a.m., on Saturday ending at 11 a.m., on Sunday. This technology has been around for 100 years but can now work in conjunction with smartphones or tablets. It can be set up almost anywhere as an independent communications network. For information call David Brainerd at 926-7886 or visit www.arrl.org/what-is-ham-radio.
Great to see Freedom Northwest Credit Union doing so much to support the Kooskia community! In addition to donating the Splash Park to the city (I can’t wait to try it), they have helped the Save the Opera House committee raise a bunch of money by continuing to match donations for shares. If you would like to donate to the Opera House, contact Gloria Taylor at 983-0314 or Norma Pfaff at 816-2691 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Friends of the Elk City Wagon Road committee will meet at the Clearwater Grange on Saturday, June 24, with a potluck after the meeting. This is the last meeting to finalize plans for the Elk City Wagon Road celebration. The group has a small museum in the Grange hall with some great old photos and other artifacts. The museum will be open from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m., on Saturday.
The committee is looking for people to jump in to make the event a success. They are looking for vendors, parade floats and variety show volunteers. The event begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 15. For information about the event or to volunteer, call Sue Smith at 926-4278 or Linda Winters at 926-4606.
Now that summer is here, are you ready to think about Christmas? Christmas in July, that is. Georgia (935-5616) and Barry (935-7546) are looking for vendors for the Clearwater Christmas Affairs that will happen on Friday and Saturday, July 14-15, at the Kamiah Legion Hall. Call or text either of them if you want to participate.
