— Local ranching scion Konnyr Marek had an outstanding couple of days on home turf at the 28th annual White Bird Rodeo last weekend, June 16-17, with big wins during both the main event (ranch bronc riding) and the local team roping.

Lucile’s Noah Cereghino, seven years old, also hit the sweet spot: he won his age group in the calf scramble both days, and topped the mutton busting before the main event.

And there was plenty of action to go around.

During the professional events, Wyatt Haubrick took the all-around cowboy title with a runner-up finish in the steer wrestling and four place heeling in the pro team roping.

Kirk St. Clair won the bareback riding, Luke McKay won the saddle bronc riding, Mitch White won the the tiedown roping and Conner Howard won the steer wrestling.

Dex Maddox and Breck Ward won the team roping, and Dalton Howard won the bull riding.

There were no scores in the novice bull riding, novice saddle bronc riding, novice bareback riding or regular saddle bronc riding.

Macy Fuller won the breakaway roping and Kalena Webb won the pro barrel racing.

In local events, Marek combined with Dean Klement to top the buckle team roping, and Klement won the wild cow milking.

Dani Aiken won the youth barrel racing, with Micaela Farris, Jaycee Marek, Shayla Edwards and Emma Blanthorn also in the top five.

Calf scramble winners in the 8-12 age group were Jaylen Edwards of Nampa and Kennidee Scheuerman of Grangeville.
