Canadian motorcyclist dies in crash

POWELL – Canadian motorcyclist Gunter Keess died last Wednesday, June 21, following a single-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 12.

Keess, 75, of Hondo, Alberta, was westbound at milepost 157.5 at 12:28 p.m., riding a 2003 BMW motorcycle, according to Idaho State Police, when he failed to negotiate a left curve. Keess went off the right shoulder and over an embankment where he struck a downed tree and several rocks. He was wearing his helmet at the time of the crash.

Keess succumbed to his injuries on scene and was transported to Trenary Funeral Home in Kooskia.

KAMIAH – Three people were transported for medical evaluation following a two-vehicle crash at Kamiah last Friday, June 23.

David Kuykendall, 43, of Kamiah, and his passenger, Charlie Price; and Guy Ramsdell, 74, of Genesee, were taken to Clearwater Valley Hospital in Orofino.

The crash was reported at 11:13 a.m. on U.S. Highway 12, milepost 65.3, according to Idaho State Police. Kuykendall was driving a 1994 GMC Suburban when he pulled eastbound out of the lumber mill. Kuykendall failed to yield to Ramsdell, driving a westbound 1994 Nissan Sentra. During the crash, Kuykendall’s vehicle overturned. The roadway was blocked for more than two hours
