Elk City News: Property taxes up by 30-plus percent; Dixie activities set

Jamie Edmondson Elk City 842-2452

— An interesting phenomenon has taken place in Elk City (and elsewhere in the county, I suspect). Seems everyone I have visited with has had a significant raise in their property taxes, some even up more than 30 percent!

Looks like Jeff Maxell will be doing 4th of July fireworks again this year. Be sure to ask if you can help in any way to make the show something to remember.

“Fourth of July” celebration in Dixie will take place on the 1st of July and will feature an auction that will take place at 11 a.m. that day. Burgers will be available throughout the day. Julie Olive writes in the Dixie Newsletter that, “If you have any donations for the auction, you can leave them in the groomer shed. The snowmobile club would love to see you there. Also, if you have a chance to make up a basket of goodies to donate for the auction, that would be great; kids things really go over well. If you have any questions, call Lisa Gunter at 476-0107 home, or cabin 842-2855, or Nichole Roberts at 935-9168 home or cabin 842-2305. Half of the proceeds go to help the park. Hope to see you all there!”

The schedule is out for Dixie Days so thought you would like to plan a trip there Aug. 5 and 6. Saturday, the 5th, the activities planned are as follows: a baked food sale, a photo contest, vendors, family games, a cake walk, Bingo, and the ducky derby followed by the tug-o-war and a baseball game, ending with a street dance featuring the band, American Bonfire.

There will also be a raffle that includes, but is not limited to, a Stihl 180 chain saw, a handmade quilt by Linda Purnell as well as other items. Tickets are $1 each and are for sale at businesses in Elk City as well as Dixie. For information, call Kathy Johnson at 842-2377 or Dennis Edwards at 842-2438.

The Dixie Ladies are raising money by selling raffle tickets for four oldtime pictures of Dixie. They are on a 12”x16” canvas. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20.They will also be selling them at the 4th of July weekend. Or contact Kathy at 842-2377, Ramona at 842-2990 or Julie at 842-2333. The winner gets all four of them.

I will have information soon on plans for Elk City Days.

Reminder: The summer reading program at the Elk City Library.
