Salmon River fishing ‘excellent’

Idaho Fish and Game fishery staff biologist Brett Bowersox recently informed anglers “fishing in the Salmon and Little Salmon rivers around Riggins was excellent this past week.”

In his June 26 chinook season update, Bowersox wrote the department “documented 707 adults and 493 jacks harvested with estimated catch rates of six hours per fish caught in the main Salmon River and 11 hours per fish caught in the Little Salmon River.”

He also noted harvest share for the Rapid River stock grew to 1,978 adult fish. With 903 adults caught through June 25, more than 1,000 fish remain to be harvested when the Riggins-area rivers open this Thursday. Flows and sediment levels are expected to improve.
