— The warm weather has arrived! Our little town is really heating up, so remember to stay well-hydrated and don’t forget the animals as well. Summer is upon us, but the waters are still running high and swift, so be ever watchful of the rivers and streams.

Being the last week of the month, June is about gone and July is fast approaching. As we prepare to celebrate our independence, many activities are going on all around us if you are looking for something to do.

July 1st, the American Legion Post No. 152 and the American Legion Riders 3 Rivers Chapter will be hosting a Crawdad Boil. This all starts at 4 p.m., until they are gone. Cajun style cooking will be done and it will cost $20 per person presale and $25 per person at the door. Beer will be available, so remember to bring the ID. A raffle will also be held. Contact Walt Lindsey at 839-2457 or Homer Brown at 839-2293.

The Idaho County Airport in Grangeville would like to invite the public to a grand “reopening” ceremony to celebrate last year’s runway and taxiway reconstruction. Starting on Wednesday, the public will have the opportunity to visit the airport and see all the improvements firsthand. This will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Puget Sound Antique Airplane Club will have more than 30 planes on “static” display. Come on out and see the vintage aircrafts.

If you have any upcoming events and would like them in the newsletter for the mid-September issue get them to Char. This will cover all things to the end of the year. All this information needs to be in 2-3 weeks before we go to the printers. This can be anything, business, special sales, anniversaries, special events that you may want to be “spotlighted”.

Upcoming meetings are Deer Creek Highway Dist. On the 3rd of July at 7 p.m.; library meeting on the 4th at 10 a.m.; and then the food bank pickup on the 6th of July.

Birthday greetings go out to Jonna Holthaus, Tammy Battles, Josephine Parsons, Dianna Bunting, Amy Buss, Emily Gennis, Ryan Hoene, Gabriel, Bryden Pineda, Dale Clark, Josh West, Bryan Lowe, Trace Chandler, Elizabeth Marek, Roy Farmer, Trayven Sickels, Mike Tilley, Kami Sickels, Brody Lowe, and Rita Roakey.

Anniversaries for the last of the month are Matt & Carol Fee, Roy & Cody Farmer, Todd & Heather Cullin, and Mike & Lynn Fredrickson.

TidBits: With 4th of July approaching here are some fun facts about our holiday. Did you know?

*This holiday does not celebrate the signing of the Declaration; it celebrates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence by the Second Continental Congress.

*Three presidents died on July 4th – Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and James Monroe.

*John Adams believed that day would be marked with celebrations throughout the nation’s history.

*Actually, only two Founding Fathers signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. The majority of signers penned their signatures on Aug. 2, 1776.

So, with in mind, I hope everyone will reflect back on the true meaning of this great day —- our Independence. Be careful and stay safe!! Happy Independence Day to all.
