GRANGEVILLE Grangeville High School is on the lookout for a new principal.
Current principal Steve Higgins announced two weeks ago he has taken the Kamiah superintendent job for the 2017-18 school year.
“We posted the opening right away and have several internal applications as well as a few outside applicants,” said Kent Stokes, Mountain View School District 244 superintendent.
Stokes said a committee consisting of an administrator, board members, parents, teachers and himself will comb through applicants and interview as they feel is needed.
“It’s an important position,” he said. “The good thing is, we have time to get the right person in there.”
Even so, Stokes said he would like to see a new principal chosen by the March board meeting, if possible.
The current principal salary is in the $80,000 neighborhood, but the 2017-18 salary could be lower if the new person does not have as much experience, according to MVSD’s employment and salary history.
