Forest campground host jobs on offer

The Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests are looking for volunteers who are enthusiastic about sharing the benefits of National Forest System lands with visitors.

The forests have multiple job openings available across the forest for volunteer campground hosts.

Volunteer campground hosts are front-line representatives of the U.S. Forest Service. Few Forest Service employees have as much direct daily contact with members of the public as a volunteer campground host.

Typical duties include informing visitors of recreational opportunities, answering questions from visitors, monitoring campground sites for fee compliance, recording daily occupancy levels, maintaining campground facilities, and more.

The following opportunities are available:

• At the Powell Campground and Wilderness Gateway Campground, both located on the Wild & Scenic Lochsa River.

Powell Campground is located an hour west of Missoula, Montana. It is within walking distance of the Lochsa Lodge and the Powell Ranger Station. Electric hookups are available.

The Wilderness Gateway Campground is the largest of the campgrounds along the Highway 12 corridor.

It is located one hour east of Kooskia, Idaho or two hours west of Missoula, Montana. The typical host season for these campgrounds is mid-May through mid-September.

• At Red River Campground near Elk City, Idaho and Spring Bar Campground near Riggins, Idaho on the main Salmon River.

Hosts are generally needed Memorial Day through Labor Day.

The weekly schedule is Thursday through Monday, including holidays. Volunteers must provide their own self-contained trailer and generator (host sites do not have electric hookups).
