— Troy and Mary Shores have a year at Inland Title & Escrow under their belts, but the business owner couple is not new to the business world.

Last year, the husband and wife team purchased Inland Title and Escrow from Del and Lexi Lunders. However, it wasn’t a new endeavor, as Mary has owned and operated Clearwater County Land Title Company in Orofino for nearly 30 years.

“This was a good opportunity to expand into Idaho County,” explained Mary.

Troy has spent most of his career in sales and marketing, was involved in the Boise real estate market and in the computer software industry. He now runs the Grangeville office of Inland Title Escrow while Mary continues operating Clearwater County Land Title Company and helps out at Inland Title.

Rounding out the Grangeville office staff is their new closing agent, Julie Johnson, who previously worked in banking for the past 26-plus years, and Pam Baker. Judy Elliot recently retired from Inland Title.

The Shores work closely with lenders, buyers, sellers and real estate personnel to research and provide title insurance to property owners insuring marketable title.

This job requires a lot of examination into archives and investigating the history of a property.

“We have a database of all properties in Idaho County and every recorded transaction that has occurred on those properties since the original conveyance from the United States,” Troy explained.

Using those recorded documents, they are able to create a report that will show any easements, liens, judgments or other items that are attached to that property.

“Every transaction is so different, it really is interesting work,” said Mary.

Mary said as they have now eased into the reality of owning and operating two businesses, she and Troy look forward to becoming more involved in the community.

In their spare time, the Shores enjoy outdoor activities such as camping, fishing, skiing and hiking. They are parents to nine dogs and have bred and shown their Labradors and Clumber spaniels.

One lab in particular is a greeter at Inland Title and Escrow: 10-year-old Kodi.

“He likes everyone,” Troy smiled. “He’s the office greeter.”

The Shores invite anyone to stop in and say hello, and view the historical photos they have in their 524 Main Street office. The business has been in existence since 1905.

Inland Title and Escrow is underwritten by First American Title Insurance Company. Call the business at 983-0150.
