COTTONWOOD Having run distance for the 2017 state champion Prairie Pirates Chaye Uptmor is headed to Caldwell on scholarship this fall, where she plans to study health and human sciences and psychology and, eventually, to pursue a degree in occupational therapy.
“I’m going to run at College of Idaho,” she said Friday, May 26. “I decided to go there because they’re an NAIA school and I felt I can, hopefully, compete well at that level. I like that they’re a small school with a small student body, and it felt like a family. Everybody knows each other by name there.”
The recruiting process began with Uptmor setting up a profile on a recruiting website.
“After I researched the school and thought I would like it, I contacted them,” Uptmor said. “I e-mailed their head coach and it went from there. I had a campus tour and met some of the team.”
Reflecting on memories of her time at PHS, Uptmor highlighted the volleyball championships, basketball state trips and, “the most vivid one, obviously, is the state track title. ... We knew the stars would have to perfectly align, and they did.”
