Payette man killed in Friday night crash on US 95

Chet D. Johnson

— A Payette man was killed in a Friday night single-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 95 north of Riggins.

Chet D. Johnson, 31, died at the scene.

The accident was reported at 11 p.m. Oct. 27 at milepost 198, one mile north of Time Zone Bridge, according to an Idaho County Sheriff’s Office (ICSO) report. Johnson was southbound driving a 2001 Dodge R2500 hauling a livestock trailer when he crossed the centerline and opposite lane, went off the left side of the road and traveled 158 feet before going 52 feet up a rock embankment. The Dodge went another 80 feet, striking the rock mountainside three times before falling back onto the left shoulder, during which the trailer separated.

Front airbags deployed during the crash, and Johnson was not wearing a seat belt. Based on a blood test, alcohol is a suspected factor in the accident.

Riggins Ambulance assisted at the scene.
