LAPWAI Prairie led 28-0 at halftime Friday, during what became a 52-14 road win last Friday night, Oct. 27, over the other contender for the Whitepine League's second seed.
Jacob Stubbers scored a 67-yard rushing touchdown right off the hop against Lapwai, and Spencer Schumacher threw two touchdown passes in his return to the offensive backfield as quarterback.
Schumacher was sidelined by injury during Prairie’s season opener at Genesee, but has started at defensive end most of the season.
Damian Forsmann and Owen Anderson caught Schumacher's touchdown passes.
Stubbers finished with three rushing touchdowns and averaged nearly 11 yards per carry on 15 attempts. Schumacher also scored a rushing touchdown, as did Cole Martin.
Defensively, Caleb McWilliams notched eight solo tackles including one in the backfield, and assisted on another tackle behind the line of scrimmage. As a team, PHS caught Lapwai for a loss eight times, and forced two interceptions.
“We played great on both sides of the ball,” head coach Ryan Hasselstrom said. “Stubbers and McWilliams ran great, and defensively we shut down the pass and the run. Hunter Chaffee played great defense against Kendall Leighton.”
Lapwai eventually scored on a couple of runs by Tui Moliga, but the Pirates limited him to a total of 36 yards on 20 attempts.
Coming — Prairie (8-1) is set to play at Wilder (6-2) at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3 (5 p.m. MT).
