GRANGEVILLE Mountain View School District 244’s Zone 5 is in need of a representative.
The zone’s trustee Jeremy Harris of Grangeville officially vacated his seat as of the July 17 meeting, and a replacement has not yet been found.
“The borders of Zone 5 are a little crazy, so if anyone has any questions about the area this covers, call the district office or another board member,” said board chair Mike Dominguez of Kooskia.
Those who believe they live in the Zone 5 area (which covers parts of Grangeville, Mount Idaho and White Bird) but are unsure can go to the sd244.org website and if they have access to Google can look up their residence and lay the district zone map over it to see in which zone they are located.
Since no one in zone 5 has expressed interest, a representative from outside the zone may also be considered by the board.
“I had someone within my zone express interest,” said Lot Smith of Grangeville, vice chair, zone 1, at the Oct. 30 meeting.
Following declaring the vacancy, the board has 90 days to appoint a replacement from within that zone. This will be up the end of November.
“We need to appoint a person at or before our next meeting,” Dominguez said. This meeting is set for Nov. 20, 5:30 p.m., in Kooskia.
“Yes, because if it goes to Nov. 24 and no one is appointed, it’s out of your hands,” explained district business manager Becky Hogg. Once the 90 days has expired, the choice of a trustee would then go to the Idaho County Commissioners.
Anyone interested should call, e-mail or send a letter to the board c/o Superintendent Marcus Scheibe.
The newly appointed trustee will assume office at the next regular meeting following the appointment and should take the oath of office at that time. Whoever is appointed serves the balance of the Zone 5 term which expires in 2018. At that time, the appointee can file for candidacy if they choose to.
