— I’ve been watching the progress of the new construction of a log cabin in Stites for the past few months. It’s a nice looking little cabin at the downstream end of town. It’s great to see a new building going up in Stites. I’ve been curious about the fate of the Kooskia Opera House, so I stopped to see Marcia Graves at Graves Nursery and Thrift Store. She and Mike are excited to have sold it to a younger family who are in the process of moving here from out of state. I checked with Umpqua Bank about what they are planning to do with their bank building in Kooskia once they close the bank in January. They plan to sell the building as quickly as possible. Hoping that someone with deep pockets will see a future for this building.

Local photographer, Robert Millage, is the featured artist at Muse Media (410 Main Street, Kamiah) this month. Muse is displaying nine of Millage’s best wildlife photos of elk, mountain goats, deer, coyotes and more presented is great detail and printed on sheet metal or wood. The photos are from throughout the west, including Glacier National Park, the National Bison Range and Yellowstone National Park. I stopped to see this show as Lauren Patterson of Muse Media was hanging the exhibit. I found the detail amazing; Millage really captures the spirit of the animals. A reception to meet the artist is planned for today, Wednesday, Nov. 15, 5-7 p.m.

Millage is a fifth generation Kamiah resident, who took an interest in photography because he was always out in the woods and “seeing so much cool stuff”, he wanted to share it with others. He shares much of his wildlife photography on his Instagram account @robertmillagephotography or online at www.robertmillage.com.

If you would like to apply to be a featured artist or want to find out more about Muse Media, visit their Facebook page at facebook.com/musemediacom or website at www.musemediaco.com or call 208-935-5251. People are welcome to stop in to see the photos or to find out what Muse Media is all about.

The Upriver Youth Leadership Council (UYLC) is hosting an open gym volleyball night at the Wa-A’Yas Community Center for youth ages 12 and older on Nov. 18, from 6-8 p.m. The Youth Advisory Board is planning one or more activities per month that are free, healthy and fun alternatives for teenagers. The group welcomes new ideas, and partnerships. You can contact them at Upriverylc@gmail.com. Call Jasmine Huerta at 208-743-0392 if you have questions.

The Saturday after Thanksgiving has been known as Small Business Saturday, since 2010. It’s a day to encourage people to support small local businesses as they start their Christmas shopping. The Kamiah Legion Hall (7th and Main Street) will be filled with holiday cheer with local artisans, food booths and more at the Clearwater Christmas Affair. It’s happening both Friday, Nov. 24, noon-8 p.m., and Saturday Nov. 25, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.. It sounds like fun, so check it out and see what local artisans have created to sell.
