How have we allowed government to ignore health care benefit?

Letter to the Editor

After two hospitals, several mistakes, and luxury expense, I had to send my husband to Sweden to get better care. He had strength enough to make the $300 flight to Seattle, round-trip ticket from there was $500.

Once in Sweden, his sister took him to the clinic where they transferred him directly to the emergency room, and they were concerned because they had to isolate him because he had been in U.S. hospitals and they do not have MRSA there (this bug actually killed my father), and the instances of pneumonia from the hospital are minimal. For an overnight stay, they found an isolated area and room for him, and started right away draining him. They have kept him warm, and this will cost him $40.

How is it that we, as citizens of the modern world, have allowed the government to ignore what Europe has been doing with taxes for their citizens since the end of WWII? How is it that we have been so gullible and been victims of insurance for profit propaganda? How is it logical not to call insurance another tax? We have broken down the amount and quantity of taxes paid here in the U.S. and found we pay as much or more than they pay in Europe, and yet we still pay billions into the coffers of the INS companies, and still do not get the benefits?

How is that we cannot see that what we do for others, whether with our money or tax money, we do for ourselves? Didn’t we once call our nation a Christian nation?
