Savages flatten Cascade; league-leading Lapwai rocks Clearwater Valley

— Salmon River’s Canyon Harper scored four times on 10 carries and notched 242 rushing yards as the Savages improved to 5-1 on the season with a 52-0 rout of Cascade.

Harper posted the first three scores of the game, on runs of 45, 21 and 42 yards. SRHS quarterback Devan Branstetter ran for one of the conversions and threw to Peyton Baugh for another, then threw a touchdown passes to Baugh (25 yards) and Randy McClure (22 yards) during the second quarter. Before halftime, Harper broke another long touchdown run — a 65 yarder — and Branstetter’s fifth conversion of the game made it 46-0 at the turn.

Salmon River added a 21-yard touchdown pass from Jimmy Tucker to McClure in the third quarter.

Up next, Salmon River (5-1, 1-0 Long Pin Conference) is set to host Garden Valley at 7 p.m. MT Friday night, Oct. 6.

The Savages will host Tri-Valley Oct. 13.

Lapwai thunders CV

KOOSKIA — The upstart Rams got a reality check from one of the two remaining Whitepine League undefeateds last Friday night, Sept. 29, when Lapwai ran 39 times for 238 yards including the first two scores of the game.

CV scored on runs by Lane Schilling (1 yard and 46 yards) and Tyce Pfefferkorn (37 yards).

Up next, Clearwater Valley (2-3, 1-3 Whitepine League) is set to host Gar-Pal at 7 p.m. this Friday, Oct. 6.
