Riggins News: Pinehurst Quilters to host quilt, craft auction Oct. 21

The Idaho Old Time Fiddlers State Jam Session is this weekend, Friday, Oct. 13, and Saturday, Oct. 14, at Hoot’s Cafe in White Bird. They will be jamming and dancing both days; join the free event for good music, great dancing and lots of fun.

Riggins Clinic will hold a flu vaccine clinic this coming Tuesday, Oct. 17. Call now 208-628-3666 to book an appointment…first come, first served.

Pinehurst Quilters will hold their annual Quilt/Craft Auction next Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Riggins Community Center located behind the Chevron Station. Doors open at noon to preview items; auction will begin at 1 p.m. There will be king, queen, twin, and baby quilts, wall hangings, table toppers, placemats, jellies, decorations, candy, and so much more. Jim Adair our local auctioneer will do the honors of selling these beautiful quilts. There will be a “Treasure Table” with items starting at a dollar that can be purchased outright. They will have door prizes. They will have refreshments. Plan now to join the fun and get some Christmas shopping or personal shopping done early.

Riggins Elementary School will celebrate Red Ribbon Week Oct. 23-31 learning to say, “No to Drugs.” The Riggins PTO is sponsoring the great Pumpkin Scramble Wednesday, Oct. 25, for Riggins Elementary students.

Riggins Assembly Of God Church is hosting a Light for the Lost Banquet with speaker Pastor Isaac Tellez Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m.; dinner will be $10. Call Pastor James Dunn at 208-250-4608.

Salmon River Community Church burned its mortgage to its Clemens Annex which is the house just south of the church as they are now debt free and celebrated with the burning of the paper at the annual business meeting and dinner Sunday.


PTO carnival set for Oct. 21

RIGGINS — Riggins PTO School Carnival will be held in the Salmon River High School Multi-purpose. Room next Saturday, Oct. 21, from 6-9 p.m. Anyone wanting to donate to the silent auction or Bingo prizes contact Hannah McClure; PTO is looking for helpers to help set up on Oct. 20, and take down on 22nd; they also need ticket takers for one or two hour shifts; Contact Hannah or any PTO member. The fun is open to everyone. Come join the fun and help PTO fund school projects and events for our kiddos.

Riggins Community Center serves great lunches every Tuesday at noon; The public is invited to dine and chat with the Senior Citizens; there is a small lunch fee for great food; all ages are welcome and encouraged to come.

Fit and Fall Proof Classes are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10-11 a.m., at the Salmon River Community Church for seniors as well as others. The free classes help with strengthening and balance and is led by local people who have taken the training classes.

Bingo, which serves as a fund-raiser for our senior citizens will be held Wednesday, Nov. 8, 6:30 p.m., at the Riggins Community Center located behind the Chevron Station. Bingo is open to everyone older than 18 years old; they have cash prizes; everyone has a lot of fun!

Salmon River Savages beat the Garden Valley Wolverines 46-14 at home last Friday in an exciting game. Senior Night and the last home game will be this Friday, Oct. 13, with Tri-Valley at 7 p.m.; their final game will be at Council with the Council Lumberjacks next Friday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m.

Salmon River Lady Savages Senior Night for our Lady Savages is tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 12, is and last home game at 6 p.m., with the New Meadows Mountaineers. The Lady Savages JV and Varsity were on a winning streak last week…they won all games with Council Lumberjacks Tuesday, Nez Pearce Indians Thursday, and Garden Valley Wolverines Friday; they will have played Cascade Ramblers Tuesday, Oct. 10; District Tourney is Saturday, Oct. 14, and Tuesday 17; Play- in game Saturday, Oct. 21; State Tournament Friday and Saturday, Oct. 27 and 28. JV Girls took second in the Tournament play Saturday.

Riggins Christmas Bazaar will be held Saturday, Nov. 25, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at 121 Lodge Street in the Community Center located behind the Chevron Station. Contact Joni Shepherd at 208-628-4048 or 208-859-4725 for information and to reserve your Bazaar space for $25; bring your own table. Applications and space fee must be paid by Nov. 1 to insure your space. Go to www.facebook.com/rigginschristmasbazaar/ for an online application which asks for description of items to be sold. There will be a scavenger hunt again this year; if you would like to donate a product for the hunt, contact Joni ASAP. This will be a great time to do some fantastic Christmas shopping. It is amazing the talent and creativity of our local craft and arts people here in the Salmon River Canyon.

Halloween is Tuesday, Oct. 31. Be sure your youngsters are dressed for the weather, go Trick or Treating with adults, and only go to places where they know the people.
