Grangeville’s volleyball season began with a transition — with a new head coach arriving at GHS from across the Prairie — and the season ended with district tournament losses Monday night, Oct. 16, at Genesee.
Outside hitter Kate Lutz — one of the team’s senior leaders — described it as “lots of fun” as well as a growing experience.
“We learned a lot as a team,” she said. “It’s lots of fun playing together as seniors — we’ve played together since our freshman year. It’s just fun to play with the same people year after year. ... It was different, but it was good.”
Lutz said she felt like she grew as a player under Hudson — “and as a person,” she said. Lutz also recalled some of the off-court time the Grangeville girls had together this season.
“We spent a lot of time together outside of practice, so we grew really close,” Lutz said. “Coach Hudson was always so positive and before every game she would just tell us ‘win or lose, be proud of the way you played because the score doesn’t matter to me. It’s just a bonus.’”
Now that volleyball season is over, many of the players on the squad are shifting their focus to the upcoming basketball season.
For that, practice begins on Oct. 31.
The first varsity girls basketball games of the season will be Nov. 14 at Lapwai, then Nov. 17 at McCall-Donnelly, then Nov. 18 at Logos, per the school’s schedules page at ghsathletics.org.
The first home games will be Nov. 21 against Prairie, Dec. 1 against McCall-Donnelly and Dec. 5 against Logos.
