— Most of you in town know about the Big Elk Fire north of town that was started by lightning on Sept. 8, but for those of you who recreate here, have recreational property here, or otherwise are interested in the goings-on in Elk City, thought I would fill you in by bringing you the latest news. The fire grew to 75 acres and there were immediate responses by smokejumpers, engines, bulldozers, and a hotshot crew. The fire increased in size by five acres the next day but the resources out there will continue to attack the fire in a direct manner to prevent the spread to any nearby structures.

In the upper righthand corner, you can look for specific incidents (if you know the name) or just search for fires in Idaho (or anywhere else you might be interested in). Another place to go on the web is the forest web site at https://www.fs.usda.gov/nezperceclearwater/.

Meetings: American Legion on the 13th; VFW Post and Auxiliary on the 14th; Idaho Food Bank on the 19th.
