Smoke squashes soccer matches; GHS to host St. Maries this Saturday

— Home soccer matches scheduled for last Saturday, Sept. 9, against Priest River, were cancelled due to poor air quality as smoke hung over much of the region late in the day last Friday.

Stormy wind eventually cleansed the air, so the Grangeville boys proceeded to play at Orofino after the print edition deadline Sept. 12.

Grangeville is scheduled to host St. Maries this Saturday, Sept. 16, with the girls to play at noon and the boys to play afterward at 2 p.m.

Last week, GHS activities director Matt Dame told the Free Press the Priest River games may yet be rescheduled, but as of press time, new dates and times for those games had not yet been announced.
