Remains found in Lewis County last fall positively identified as Jason Daniels

Case remains under investigation; referred to FBI, Nez Perce Tribe Police



— Remains discovered in Lewis County last fall have been positively identified as missing Kamiah-area man Jason Daniels. Family has been notified.

At this time, according to a Lewis County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) release, the case is still under investigation and is being turned over to the FBI and Nez Perce Tribal Police.

As initially reported in the Idaho County Free Press, on Nov. 30, 2017, a hiker located partial human remains in 6 Mile Canyon within Lewis County, with two subsequent multi-agency searches conducted of the area.

The remains were transferred to the King County Coroner’s Office for examination and identification. According to the release, the remains were positively identified by King County Forensic Anthropologist Katherine M. Taylor from dental records.

Assistance to LCSO in its initial investigation included ISP, FBI, U.S. Forest Service, Lewis County Search and Rescue, Nez Perce County Search and Rescue, and Latah County Search and Rescue.
