Riggins LCSC student wins state tech award

— Riggins resident Javier (Alex) Diaz was one of two Lewis-Clark State College (LCSC) students in the Technical & Industrial Division who recently won Idaho State SkillsUSA competitions and will advance to nationals this summer.

On their wins, Diaz, and Anthony (Tony) Smith of Priest River, will represent LCSC at SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Competition during June 25-29 in Louisville, Ky.

Diaz won the skills competition in heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) on April 5, at LCSC. Diaz is in his second year of LCSC’s HVACR (heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration) Technology program at LCSC.

Diaz is a graduate of Salmon River High School in Riggins and is the son of Javier and Rachel Diaz.

In CNC Machining competition, LCSC had four students compete and three came away with medals. Of these, Keven Hedden of Kamiah was second in the other machining competition.
