Travis Murray’s philosophy is simple: “The residents are people, just like you and me – and that’s how I treat them!”

Murray is a p.m. cook and dessert preparer five days a week at GHR.

“I love to cook,” he smiled. A graduate of culinary school in California, Murray has been on the job at GHR since December.

“My family has had property here about 15 years and I moved here about two years ago, following my parents,” he explained.

He worked as a cook at Oscar’s and then transferred to GHR where he said he appreciated the “stability and benefits.”

“In more ways than one --,” he grinned. “I work with great people, have a great kitchen boss in Teresa [Aiken], and the best people to cook for.”

Although he must cook within specific dietary regulations, he said he appreciates the freedom to try different seasonings and flavors.

He said he has enjoyed getting to know each resident who always see him coming.

“I’m a big guy,” he laughed. “They definitely see me coming, and they recognize me and call out to me or we have a little sign language going on.”

Murray treats residents with respect and said his mission is to give them the best, restaurant-quality food possible.

His life in Grangeville brought him another bit of fortune:

“I fell in love here,” he smiled.

He and Sheena Lacer will be married in September.

“It’s a good life,” he beamed.
