JAKES Day cancelled

GRANGEVILLE — National Wild Turkey Federation JAKES Day, slated Aug. 4, has been cancelled for lack of sign-ups, organizer Tammy Nail informed the Free Press.

GHS football combine scheduled Aug. 6-7

GRANGEVILLE — The GHS football combine is scheduled for 5 p.m. Aug. 6-7 with a parent meeting at 7 p.m. Aug. 7 and first practice at 6 p.m. Aug. 8.

Football Camp coming up Aug. 6-7 at GHS

GRANGEVILLE — GHS football coaches are once again putting on a summer camp for athletes entering grades 4-8, with two days of activity scheduled 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Aug. 6-7 at the GHS football field.

Cost is $35. Register before Aug. 3 to guarantee

T-shirt. The camp is non-contact and features fundamentals development in all three phases of the game.

Kayak course slated

RIGGINS – Dare To Kayak will be offering a program Aug. 13-15 introducing kids to the opportunities for paddling as a means to live a healthy, drug-free life.

Raspberry Festival fun run scheduled Aug. 5

A 10K Fun Run and 5K Run/Walk kicks off the day of family fun at 8 a.m. Aug. 5 at the Raspberry Festival in front of the Historical Museum at St. Gertrude.

Syringa offers sports physicals Aug. 1-2

Syringa Hospital & Clinics will be offering free physical examinations for all students for the purpose of participating in sports activities. The first will be 1-4 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Syringa Kooskia Clinic and the second will be 4-6 p.m. Aug. 2 at the Syringa Primary Care Clinic in Grangeville. The physicals are free; voluntary donation of $25 is suggested. One hundred percent of all donations received will go directly back to that student’s school. Forms can be downloaded at syringahospital.org. No appointment is necessary.

Volleyball parents to meet Aug. 7 at GHS

GRANGEVILLE — The GHS volleyball preseason parents meeting is slated for 5:30 p.m. Aug. 7 at GHS.

Youth soccer fall program announced

Registration for the Grangeville Youth Soccer fall season is open through Aug. 18 for boys and girls ages 3-14 online at grangevillesports.com. The season runs Sept. 4-Oct. 5, and game schedules are TBD.

Equipment is required including shin guard and a soccer ball with participant’s name on it; soccer cleats are recommended by not required. Cost is $35 for the first child and $30 for each additional child before Aug. 18. Late registration begins Aug. 19 and closes Aug. 25 and the cost for late registration is $45. Volunteer coaches are sought, and volunteer coaches will receive reimbursement for one child registration fee.

Football officials association recruiting refs for fall season

LEWISTON — Recruitment is under way for football officials for high school and junior high school football in Idaho’s District 2. The first meeting, which is an introductory meeting for coaches and officials, touches on rules changes from last season and points of emphasis for this season. It will be held Aug. 8 at 7 p.m. at the Lewiston High School Auditorium.

Additional meetings for officials will take place throughout August, usually on Tuesday and/or Thursday evenings. The full schedule of meetings will be provided to officials in early August.

Games are played late August to mid-November.

Officials in District 2 work junior high up to varsity level games at schools stretching from Grangeville to Potlatch. Games take place nearly every night of the week with most varsity games reserved for Friday nights.

To register online, visit the Idaho High School Activities Association website at www.idhsaa.org, click on the Officials tab and follow the instructions. Registration is $40 through Aug. 13. After Aug. 14, cost is $65.

St. Mary’s Hospital and Clinics offers sports physicals Aug. 6-7

St. Mary’s Hospital and Clinics will offer sports physicals in Kamiah and Nezperce.

Physicals at the Nezperce Clinic are set for Monday, Aug. 6, and at the Kamiah Clinic Tuesday, Aug. 7, 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Call 208-937-2496 in Nezperce and 208-935-2585 in Kamiah.

Cost is $25 per physical and $15 will be donated back to the child’s school. Physical packets can be picked up at the front desk of each clinic.
