Cottonwood News: Harvest is in full swing; who’s ready for zucchini?

— Harvest is in full swing on the prairie. Crops are good due to the rain this spring. I hope everyone can get through the season without accidents.

School will be starting soon as the list of needed school items has come out. Wow! Where did our summer go? Fair time is coming, also. That should keep the 4-H kids busy.

Zucchini season is here! Keep your cars locked or you might get more than you bargained for! Actually, zucchini is very good for you, and is very versatile to use in recipes. My favorite is the omelet with lots of veggies in it.

I spent an enjoyable weekend with my eight sisters while those from out of town were here. What a fun time with all of you girls!

This week Father Mark Arnzen, Diocese of San Jose, will be here visiting his family. He will be taking Father Paul’s place while Fr. Paul is on vacation. All Mass times remain the same for this week including the Mass at Keuterville on Sunday evening at 7 p.m. The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a Holy Day on Aug. 15. Masses will be: Aug 14 at 7 p.m., at St. Mary’s with Father Meinrad; Aug. 15, noon at Assumption with Father Paul; and Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. at St. Anthony’s with Father Paul.

Congratulations to Royce Gehring, my brother-in-law, who recently bowled his third 300 game in Lewiston. Also, I want to congratulate Jason Vogel, my son-in-law, who recently completed the Ironman competition in Canada. You both can be very proud of yourselves.
