Elk City Days set for weekend

— Elk City Days 2018 gives a nod to local retired officers with its theme of “Salute to Law Enforcement.”

Elk City Days are set for Friday and Saturday, Aug. 10 and 11, and grand marshals for the event will be current and former law enforcement officers for Elk City, as well as those who have served elsewhere but are now living in the town. Those to be honored include Terry Beeler, Tracy Bonner, Mike Chlebowski, Larry Dasenbrock, Stan Denham, Steve Didier, Pat Doyle, Curtis Jones, Herb Lindsey, Bob McGuire, Scott Paulsen, Steve Stoneking, Sam Stamper and Bob Taylor.

Elk City Days will start out Friday, Aug. 10, with the kids’ parade at 5 p.m. This is set to begin at the post office on Main Street, with registration at 4:30 p.m.

A baseball game with the Forest Service versus the town folks is set for 6 p.m. at the Elk City School baseball field. Entertainment is set for downtown at 9 p.m.

Saturday, Aug. 11, will start with the VFW Auxiliary Breakfast from 7 to 10:30 a.m. A ping-pong ball drop for the kids is set for the Elk City Airport at 9 a.m. followed by the quilt show downtown at 10 a.m. The grand parade will be held on Main Street at 11 a.m. and the logging show and contest will begin at 1 p.m. with the following competitions: rolling pin toss (peewees, kids and women); choker setting (kids and adults); crosscut and power saw events; and wood splitting.

The kid’s sawdust dig is from 1-6 p.m. in the VFW parking lot. The Vintage Quilt Raffle drawing is at 4:15 p.m.

The night will again end with entertainment downtown at 9 p.m.
