Kooskia teen dies in crash at Kamiah; ISP investigating




— Idaho State Police is investigating last week’s fatal collision at Kamiah that resulted in the death of a Kooskia teen.

Michael R Routh, 18, died at the scene. Cause of the crash is as yet undetermined, and investigation is expected to take several weeks.

The incident was reported at 9:41 a.m. near milepost 61 on U.S. Highway 12 last Thursday, Aug. 2, according to ISP.

Madelon D. Caren, 73, of Kooskia – with Routh as a passenger — was driving a green 2001 Ford Explorer eastbound, and Maria L. Workman, 28, of Kamiah, was driving a blue 2001 Dodge Durango westbound when the vehicles collided.

Workman was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Cottonwood, and later airlifted to Spokane. Caren was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital.

Neither occupant in the Ford was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Workman was wearing a seat belt. The road was blocked for two and a half hours.
