— My quote for the week: “Our County Fair is the best County, don’t miss it, don’t even be late. From cinnamon rolls to livestock to clothing to garden goodies to artwork…add in family fun and friends to the parade and livestock sale…and don’t forget the yummy food booths…our County Fair is a great place to be next week.” See you there.

Jeannie Fitch, grand marshal of the 2018 Idaho County Fair, gets to cut the official ribbon at the opening ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Pacific Time next Wednesday, Aug. 15, at the Idaho County Fairgrounds in Cottonwood. She will then lead the parade Saturday in Cottonwood at 10 a.m. Pacific time. There’s still time to get your fair entries ready to take to the fair; fair booklets arrived in the July 18 Shopper with information for all kinds of fair entries, schedule of all events and activities, and much more. Fun at the Idaho County Fair also includes great times with family, friends, and neighbors as well as food booths, games, fiddling, spinning, dancing, talent show, and more. See you at the Idaho County Fair!

See this week’s special Idaho County Free Press fair section for details. Also, pick up premium books throughout town, at the Idaho County Courthouse or at the Free Press office.

Bingo is tonight, Wednesday, Aug. 8, 6:30 p.m., at the Riggins Community Center for those 18 and older. Bingo funds help support the senior citizen transport system. There is always fun at Bingo and the prizes are cash.

EMTs are desperately needed in Riggins right now…Riggins is in jeopardy of losing its ambulance service if new people do not step up and become qualified to be EMTs. The current EMT volunteers have served their community well and are getting ready to retire. Rocke Wilson, and I quote, says, “The world is a crazy place, but here in Riggins we are kind of sheltered from some of that. I have always felt so lucky to live in this unique place. But I also feel that I need to give something back to help make this a self-sustaining community. Most of the services we have are made up of volunteers. When I look back at the history of our fire department and our ambulance service and I see the names of all the people who have served, it’s really like a list of the most honorable and caring of our predecessors. If some of you younger people don’t step up, Riggins could lose its ambulance service.” Call Riggins City Hall 208-628-3394 or stop by and see how you can become an EMT or an ambulance driver to serve our community in a life-sustaining caring way.

The seventh Annual Sip n Float will be Aug. 25 with Wild River Adventures where the fun begins. Check online for more information or drop by Wild River Adventures right on Main Street in Riggins.

Work continues on the stage project in the Riggins City Park; contact MaryLou Hirst if you would like to volunteer doing work, donating money, or helping in any way.
