GHS announces fall sports schedule changes

Football season opens Aug. 24

GRANGEVILLE — The Bulldogs are back in action with fall sports practices warming up for an Aug. 24 road opener in Moscow. The football home opener, Aug. 31, versus Nampa Christian, is coming up.

The rest of the GHS football season includes a Sept. 7 home game against Clarkston, a Sept. 14 visit to McCall, a Sept. 22 afternoon trip to Priest River, a Sept. 28 road game at Kellogg, an Oct. 5 home game against St. Maries and an Oct. 12 road game at Orofino.

Soccer opener rescheduled

GRANGEVILLE — Soccer season was set to start this week, with Grangeville’s boys and girls hosting McCall-Donnelly at noon and 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, but those games have been cancelled in order to comply with an Idaho High School Activities Association rule and avoid a conflict with the Idaho County Fair market sale.

The GHS soccer boys had a trip to Orofino slated Aug. 20, the cancellation of which was announced Monday afternoon, Aug. 13.

No changes were announced for other early-season soccer matches. Both the boys and girls soccer teams were previously scheduled to play at McCall Tuesday, Aug. 21. The girls are scheduled to play at Coeur d’Alene Charter on Thursday, Aug. 23, and both teams have home games versus St. Maries on Saturday, Aug. 25. Both have home games scheduled Aug. 30 against Priest River.

Volleyball tournament cancelled

GRANGEVILLE — The GHS volleyball girls are set to start practice Aug. 20. The annual preseason jamboree had been planned for Aug. 21, but it was announced as cancelled last week.

As of Aug. 13, the volleyball opener remained on schedule for Aug. 28 at McCall, according to, and the first volleyball home game is planned for Sept. 6 against Kendrick.

Grangeville’s Sept. 4 home match against Prairie has been rescheduled to Sept. 27.

The Sept. 29 varsity volleyball tournament also was cancelled last week, leaving seven teams visiting from elsewhere in Idaho to go elsewhere — if they are able to reschedule at all, with so little time before the season begins.
