Salmon River wins home tournament


Savages sweep season opener

RIGGINS — Playing without senior standout Chevelle Shepherd, the Salmon River girls won every match against Cascade, Highland, Nezperce and Tri-Valley last Saturday, Aug. 25.

Next, Salmon River is set to visit Cascade on Aug. 30 and to host Council on Tuesday, Sept. 4.

Troy thumps Clearwater Valley

TROY — Clearwater Valley ran into a powerhouse last Thursday night, Aug. 23, when Troy hosted the Rams on the first night of Whitepine League play. Troy, which placed second to Genesee in league play last fall and placed second to Horseshoe Bend at the 1AD1 state tournament, had two servers go a combined 35-37, the Lewiston Tribune reported.

CV hosted Kamiah after the paper went to print Aug. 28, and is scheduled to host both Troy and Genesee Thursday night, Aug. 30. CV is scheduled to visit Timberline on Sept. 4.

Potlatch bumps Kamiah in three

POTLATCH — Last fall, Kamiah’s volleyball team split its home-and-home with Potlatch on the strength of a five-set win; KHS went on to finish even with the Loggers in the standings.

Potlatch won the 2018 season opener in straight sets last week, indicating the Kubs face a tougher climb this fall.

Kamiah visited CV after the paper went to print Aug. 28, and KHS is scheduled to host both Genesee and Troy Thursday night, Aug. 30.

Timberline tops Summit

WEIPPE — Timberline beat Summit in five (26-28, 25-22, 22-25, 25-23, 15-9) last Thursday night. Summit’s next match is Aug. 30 at Deary.

Prairie, G’ville open Sept. 6

The Grangeville and Prairie varsity seasons begin Sept. 6, with the Pirates hosting Potlatch and the Bulldogs hosting Kendrick.
