LOLO PASS Lolo Pass Visitor Center, located on the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests off U.S. Highway 12 at the Idaho–Montana state line, will host a weekend of fun, family–friendly events celebrating winter recreation. Winter Recreation Demo Days will take place Sat., Feb. 3 and Sun., Feb. 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (PST) / 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (MST).
Visitors of all ages are encouraged to stop by and brush up on their outdoor winter skills. Recreation professionals will be at Lolo Pass answering questions and offering visitors the chance to test the latest outdoor gear. This year’s schedule includes:
Feb. 3 – Industry experts will be able to answer questions, provide recommendations, and showcase the newest technology on the market.
Feb. 3 & 4 – Winter Trail Grooming: Missoula Snowgoers will show off their trail groomer and answer all your grooming questions. Stop by and learn about the volunteer efforts that contribute to our groomed snowmobile and ski trails!
Feb. 3 & 4 – Avalanche Beacon Use: Local avalanche experts from West Central Montana Avalanche Center will be providing instruction on beacon use as well as a discussion of the local snowpack and recent avalanche activity.
Feb. 4 – Winter Camping: Topics will include how to plan your trip, stay warm, and select appropriate gear, and what to expect when setting up camp for your overnight adventure.
Feb. 4 – Snowshoeing: Interested in snowshoeing, but not sure you are ready to buy your own gear? Staff from Missoula Parks and Recreation will be at Lolo Pass to answer questions and lead guided group hikes. Snowshoes will be available for visitors to try.
Feb. 4 – Cross Country Skiing: The Missoula Nordic Club will be hosting a first come, first served beginner classic ski lesson at 10:30 a.m. (PST). If you want to improve your technique, drop in for a mini lesson! Certified instructors will be available from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (PST) for 10 minute mini lessons (skate or classical technique) to provide one–on–one tips for skiers that have been around the trails before. We’ll also have a family–friendly game on skis at 12:30 p.m. (PST). Bring your own skis!
