— Paige Lindsley’s 12 points paced Grangeville’s 46-21 District II tournament win over Orofino Monday night, Feb. 5.

Having taken a 2-0 lead on Lindsley’s jumper early in the first quarter, the GHS girls opened up a 5-1 lead which grew to 15 points, 24-9, on a pair of foul shots by Kate Lutz during the second quarter. Lutz had tipped an offensive rebound out to Molly DeFord and re-posted; she was fouled after taking an entry pass from DeFord, and sank both freebies with 21 seconds left in the first half.

The lead grew to 20 when Lindsley hit a free throw late in the third quarter, to 22 on Lindsley’s breakaway layup, and to 24 on a post-up by Mikayla Ruzicka. Ruzicka faked toward the lane and turned back to the baseline to create a chance at point-blank range. The lead reached 25 when a sideline out-of-bounds set play found Lutz wide open underneath.

The Grangeville girls are slated to return to Genesee for a 6 p.m. tip-off Wednesday night, Feb. 7, for the first of at least two games against Central Idaho League regular season champion St. Maries. The district champion will qualify for the 2A state tournament; the outcome could be decided as early as 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, but a split would force a third game at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10.
