Pirates seal a top-two seed; tournament begins Feb. 10

— Outscoring the hosts by seven during the fourth quarter, the Prairie boys won a key game by eight, 36-28, last Friday night, Feb. 2. Though the contest featured relatively few baskets, both Spencer Schumacher (13 points) and Hunter Chaffee (11) scored double digits even as PHS held Potlatch’s leaders to singles.

The Pirates led by seven after the first quarter, but needed a strong finish after Potlatch cut the lead to one starting the fourth quarter. Prairie finished 10-for-12 from the foul line.

In the event of a Lapwai loss, the Pirates may yet rise in the Whitepine League standings, but the win assured the Prairie boys will start the WPL’s district tournament with a top-two seed and a first-round bye. The post-season tournament begins Feb. 10; Prairie’s first playoff game will be Feb. 13.

Prairie is scheduled to host Orofino for a non-league game Feb. 10.
