Lapwai state-bound with win over Prairie

— A 57-55 overtime win over the Prairie girls Feb. 6 gave Lapwai the Whitepine League’s only absolute qualification for the 1AD1 state basketball tournament. Lapwai overcame a 45-38 PHS lead during the fourth quarter, tying the game on free throws; the Lewiston Tribune reported the winning points came on foul shots during the overtime.

Josie Peery scored 15 points, Jordyn Higgins scored 12 and Leah Higgins scored 11 for Prairie; the Pirates now chart a course to state through the district consolation final at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 7 and a play-in at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at Post Falls High School.
