— My quote for the week is “Look for Love. Love is all around you. Love. Pass love around.” uknown.

Happy, happy Valentine’s Day to you! What a beautiful day to tell someone or many loved ones that you love them…and not just today, but every day day of the year. I am happy to report that school children still love to give and receive Valentines in their Valentine boxes.

Dr. Seuss, a favorite author of many kids of all ages, author of more than 60 children’s books, and ninth-best selling fiction author of all time, approximately 500 million copies sold, will once again be honored and celebrated this Friday March 2. Whether it is “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish” or “The Cat in the Hat” or “Green Eggs and Ham” or “Oh, The Places You’ll Go”, or “On Beyond Zebra”, get out your favorite Dr. Seuss book and read it to a child, a friend, a relative, a neighbor, or to yourself.

Dan Catherman was honored as the City of Riggins volunteer of the month for his many years on the Riggins City Fire Department. Dan served as fire chief several times during the past 20-plus years…most recently 2006-2012 and continued to volunteer until retiring in August 2017. Dan stepped up whenever needed; our residents and business owners thank Dan for his many years of dedication and commitment to the welfare of our Riggins community.

Women With Bait is ongoing during the month of February with many teams of women out on the Salmon River with their guides competing for most fish caught, biggest fish, and many other awards. February is always a great fishing month for these women and their guides.

Riggins City Park is getting a facelift, or should I say a tall tower from the Manning Crevice Bridge which is being placed over the stairway to the Riggins City Park. Gary Miller, Riggins Councilman is the chairman for this project. The history of the Manning Crevice Bridge will be kept alive with the Tower and accompanying plaque telling about the bridge standing tall at the entrance to the Riggins City Park. The project should be completed in February or March.

The new Manning Crevice Bridge is now open to travel. Several have already driven across the new bridge to get from north to south and south to north. A grand opening may be held later. Take a drive up the Big Salmon River and be one of the first to drive across the new bridge and admire its handiwork.

EMTs are needed in our Salmon River Canyon. Talk to Janeen Eggebrecht or go to the Riggins City Hall for more information. Thank you in advance.

I just wanted to end with a fun event: four of us 1965 JCHS graduates from Buffalo, Wyo., Cheryl, Tammy, Linda, and I met at the Turf Paradise Horse Race Track Saturday for our sixth Arizona annual mini-reunion…two live here year-round; two of us visit during the winter. Fun time getting together with friends who attended 12 years of school together way back when.
