If you see something, say something, says GPD Drew

— “If you see something, say something in a timely manner,” advised Chief Morgan Drew, Grangeville Police Department. “People are on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”

Drew reminded residents that officers are on duty every day throughout the year to respond to reports of suspicious and criminal activity, and other citizen concerns. This includes holidays, he added, as the office did have a recent comment from a resident that he didn’t contact the office on a matter as he thought GPD would be closed.

“We don’t close,” Drew clarified. “But, if we’re busy, it may take us a little longer to respond.”

Police rely on a good working relationship with the public to solve problems, in not only information but having it provided timely. Drew said investigations can be made more difficult if incidents are reported days or weeks after the fact. Also, the public may consider some matters too trivial to report to police, but Drew encourages residents to report those as well – from minor thefts or vandalism to suspicions of drug-related activity – as they may provide the leads to resolve a criminal case.

“It may be trivial, but it may be the break we were looking for,” he said.

The department is currently staffed with five full-time officers, including Drew, and a part-time ordinance/animal control officer. Reach the office at 208-983-1351. Information is online at or on GPD’s Facebook page.

“We’re here,” Drew said, “and we really want to talk with you about what’s going on and help solve your problems.”
