District 244 Supt. Schiebe talks about levy costs rising only slightly, citing the 2018 levy will be $3.67 per thousand of net taxable property value or only about $31 per month. Problem is the county tax assessor does not bill monthly. Property with market value of $100,000 would pay $367; $200,000 pay $734 and so on. These amounts will be added to our already increasing tax bill.
To promote a good healthy relationship (school district and community), there has to be give and take by all parties involved. This school district has come to rely on passage of school levies year after year. Eleven straight years of taking. Taking from our kids’ parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, friends and neighbors. In small communities like ours, we all give by attending school functions, sports events, purchase all sorts of raffle tickets, candy, etc., all to support our kids. Yet, you continue to take.
Small businesses, ranchers, farmers, homeowners all exist only by living within their own budgetary means. Due to your inability to function within your means, you are putting the property owners into a “downward spiral.”
Vote no March 13.
