Kamiah levy: less than cup of coffee per day

Letter to the Editor

42 cents per day for one year is what the Kamiah School Levy will cost me for my home with improvements in the City of Kamiah, if the levy is approved by the voters in the Kamiah School District on March 13.

The county states that the levy rate for the $500,000 supplemental levy will be $2.50 per thousand of taxable property value. I look at my county assessment from the Lewis County auditors, which I received in June 2017. I look at the taxable property value amount, which in my case, reads $62,034. That is about 60 thousand, so I multiply 62 X $2.50, which equals $155. Therefore, my home with improvements will cost me $155 per year, that is 42 cents per day for one year or $12.29 per month for one year.

If you wish to determine your own supplemental levy amount on your property, you can do the same calculation. Find the number of thousands listed under taxable property value and multiply it times $2.50, just as I have done above. Example: If your taxable property value is $57,499, round it off to 58 and multiply 58 x $2.50 which equals $145. This would be close to your supplemental tax amount. For the levy, use only the taxable property value amount and not the assessment amount to calculate your cost.
