POMEROY, Wash. With a strong start to the season before the winter break, the Clearwater Valley-Kamiah wrestling partnership had already staked its claim to being one of the region’s strongest wrestling teams. While area basketball teams were idle during the days between Christmas and New Years, the wrestlers hit the mats again last week — and the valley boys once again topped their competition.
Peyton Whipple placed first at 182 pounds, and 16 other squad members scored team points, the Lewiston Tribune reported Dec. 30. Among them, 10 posted top-three finishes at Pomeroy, with Christian Fabbi (126), Carson Morrow (152), Davis McElroy (160) and Ty Dominguez (170) all reaching the finals and placing second.
Placing third were Cedar Fisher (145), Bubba Summers (160), Kyle Hueth (182) and Layten Gould (220).
Grangeville wrestlers also competed, with Brandon Stump (220) winning his bracket and Parker Walters (285) reaching the heavyweight final.
Coming — Clearwater Valley will host the Central Idaho League on Jan. 11 and is scheduled to host Jan. 26-27. Kamiah is slated to host the district tournament on Feb. 17.
